As you prepare for your summer trips and adventures this year, do yourself a huge favor and buy a light poncho. The poncho is supremely better than a wrap or a scarf because it doesn’t come unraveled as you walk through the airport. It slips off your neck through security and it’s so cozy when you are trying to sleep during long arctic-air conditioned flights. Here in town, it’s hit or miss on where to find them, but my bet is on Nordstrom Rack to start, then Dillard’s. Online, you can find cheap options on Amazon and Thredup.com.
Sometimes, you need only visit your corner CVS store to find a satisfying beauty haul.
“Haul” is a word that comes from YouTube and is when young influencers are sent hundreds of products to try, earn millions of dollars in endorsements and enjoy over-the-top Coachella accommodations while not earning a college degree.
So, when I’m killing time and musing over why my journalism degree doesn’t garner such luxuries, I find myself wandering the aisles of this drugstore, searching for happiness in a cheap beauty product. Some recent finds:
Differin Gel – my dermatologist recently told me about this retinoid acne gel, which used to only be available by prescription. It’s pretty awesome and works! ($15/$30)
Violet Flower Hand Mask – not sure about the “intense moisture” it provides but the gloves are cool and the violet scent is so luxurious, totally worth the $4.99 price tag. Korean beauty products – they know their stuff.
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay – my youngest teen and her product-knowledgeable best friend love this stuff! ($9)
ARDEN Magnetic Lashes – can’t WAIT to try these! ($13.99)
Beauty 360 Rose & Pearl Brightening Mask Pods – I really hope these work well. They are really pink and pretty. They also come in a pack of 2 and include a cover so you can re-use them! I like a product that leaves me prepared. ($4.39)
Though we all love new clothes, how about celebrate Earth Day by making a little change? Buy a resale dress, shop your closet, look at Pinterest to see how to style clothes you already own. Try Rent the Runway and rent a dress for an upcoming event. Our obsession with new and cheap fashion, if left unchecked, may ultimately lead to our planet’s demise. Buy used when you can. And buy new, if you really want to, but maybe think a little bit before you do.
Some Tucson stores to try: POSH Boutique; Buffalo Exchange, Green Monkey Boutique and Girlfriends Closet.
Thank you, Target, for the beautiful and kind redesign of your dressing rooms. Not only do they feature stylish wallpaper and modern chandeliers, they really give women an important gift: ONLY ONE MIRROR! What’s more, the mirror is positioned in a corner of the dressing room, so it’s possible to hide from that accusatory and judgmental thing until the desired garment to try on is safely on your body.
I recently went to My Sister’s Closet in Scottsdale and the dressing room had a mirror on both sides!!! WHY on earth would you do that to women? Because I want to see what’s become of my back side after 46 years? Yeah, not so much!
Thank you Target, for allowing me to live in denial and happily so!
Since the day Meghan Markle wore cow print heels on an official royal visit, this trend is on! Amal Clooney followed up with a cow print clutch, Kylie Jenner posed in a cow print maillot and now, cow print is an official thing. I’m finding a lot of items on Etsy, including vintage Just Cavalli heels, a bikini, leggings, workout tops and numerous clutches. And also a little search on Shopstyle shows some very cute blouse and skirt options. The Texas girl in me loves how fun this print is, especially in the midst of planning a cowgirl-themed party next week, I’ve become a little obsessed. Enjoy your own little online searches for this pastoral print!Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images
A little blue dress inspiration. Cinderella had it right, blue is the most beautiful color on everyone of any age. If I was lying, Anna Wintour and Meghan Markle would not be featured wearing it so there….Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images Embed from Getty Images
