In these pandemic times, you can always count on the creativity of people in their attempts to make required protective wear for the masses as stylish as possible. So many retailers are selling masks, from embellished to streamlined. Truly, the choices are endless.
In that spirit, I’d like to feature one of my favorite mask vendors on Etsy–HappyStarla. Since March, I have made three different purchases of her cloth masks–adding to her more than 15,000 sales. These masks are gentle on the face and ears and come in camouflage, leopard, polka dot, lace, metallic and bright color versions. They are also machine washable. While not the best choice for high-intensity exercise or humid climates, the HappyStarla masks are a fun choice right now.
When Tucson finally gets a cool store – one that has been in Phoenix for years – you have to embrace it.
That’s exactly the case with at home, the new home decor warehouse that took over the Target behemoth on Broadway. (And thank God? Like we need another vacated store that sits empty in this city!)
It’s definitely worth a visit, or many. Tons of wall posters–and when I say tons, I mean millions. The choices are never-ending! Numerous rows of artificial plants and also some small treasures like these monogram jewelry holders. Furniture, indoor and outdoor, storage, mirrors, and some decorative pieces you may not be able to find at HomeGoods or T.J. Maxx.
If you need a housewarming gift, your gift basket starts here.
This post is a specific shout-out to my Texas girl, E.King! I hope you are reading this! But also, to all my Southern, sweet-tea loving friends–is this not THE. CUTEST. SHIRT. you have ever seen? I want to buy every single one of these long-sleeve plaid tops with every Southern saying that they make. I found this “Bless Your Heart” version for $40 at a booth during CMA Fest in Nashville, and fan-girled all over the shop owner – one Casey Burcalow of Gemini Gypsy. While Burcalow is working on her website, you can follow her “happy boho hippie wear” on Instagram – @geminigypsytx, and DM her an order. I certainly plan to, y’all!
Thank you, Target, for the beautiful and kind redesign of your dressing rooms. Not only do they feature stylish wallpaper and modern chandeliers, they really give women an important gift: ONLY ONE MIRROR! What’s more, the mirror is positioned in a corner of the dressing room, so it’s possible to hide from that accusatory and judgmental thing until the desired garment to try on is safely on your body.
I recently went to My Sister’s Closet in Scottsdale and the dressing room had a mirror on both sides!!! WHY on earth would you do that to women? Because I want to see what’s become of my back side after 46 years? Yeah, not so much!
Thank you Target, for allowing me to live in denial and happily so!
Since the day Meghan Markle wore cow print heels on an official royal visit, this trend is on! Amal Clooney followed up with a cow print clutch, Kylie Jenner posed in a cow print maillot and now, cow print is an official thing. I’m finding a lot of items on Etsy, including vintage Just Cavalli heels, a bikini, leggings, workout tops and numerous clutches. And also a little search on Shopstyle shows some very cute blouse and skirt options. The Texas girl in me loves how fun this print is, especially in the midst of planning a cowgirl-themed party next week, I’ve become a little obsessed. Enjoy your own little online searches for this pastoral print!
When you can’t find an evening gown to save your life (me), at least you can carry a cute clutch! This one from TheBrodieBride on Etsy is $68, can be personalized, has a mirror inside, fits a cell phone and makes me feel like Barbie. And it’s just one of several options you can choose, including different fonts and colors. Why should brides and bridesmaids have all the fun? One thing to note – the personalization is applied by adhesive, I’m pretty sure. There are definitely more expensive options in which names are created in the acrylic, but for as many times as you will carry a box clutch? Kind of makes more sense to go economical, in my opinion. Cute gift idea too right?
I had the privilege of interviewing former Macy’s CEO and UA grad Terry Lundgren this month for an upcoming article in BizTucson magazine. Lundgren’s story is an incredible one. He led Macy’s for 14 years, bringing one of the country’s largest retail companies to its highest revenues in 2015, before retiring in 2018. Vogue editor Anna Wintour and designers Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Vera Wang and Tory Burch are just a few who have lauded his efforts in the fashion industry. And he is genuinely a good guy. Lundgren once worked at The Solarium in Tucson, shucking oysters! He has also brought retail giants here for the last several years to talk winning strategy through his Global Retail Conference. “All that happened while I was at the University of Arizona meant everything to me,” he told me. Hope you will read the entire story in the Spring issue of BizTucson!
I recently saw this Lunar Makeup Primer listed in an article about the best things to buy on Amazon–that if you’re not buying, it’s not even worth being a Prime member. I don’t think it’s an official, verified list, but interesting to read just the same! This oil-free serum, made in England, is only $10 and has a nice 4-star rating among 69 reviews. I mean, at that price, you can’t not buy it! It’s very light, hydrating and has become the product I love to smear on my face before applying the full camouflage.
